In March 2023, a three-day event including the regular Advisory Committee meeting, lab demonstrations and teacher training was organized at the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) in The Netherlands.
On the first day, we started with 21 participants at the AC meeting in which the current status of the project, future project tasks, a future training event in Finland, and the final seminar in Vietnam were discussed. In the afternoon, as part of the teacher training, a lecture on smart lighting was attended. This lecture is part of the bachelor course Physics of Light and Lighting Design (responsible teacher: Mariƫlle Aarts) and was taught by Tanir Ozcelebi. Afterwards, during demonstrations in the Building Physics and Services laboratory at the TU/e, participants got to see and experience a sun simulator, a virtual overcast sky, a daylit mock-up office that is being used for human participant studies, and photometric equipment and setups being used for research and education.
The second day started with a visit to the Lighting Application Centre (LAC) of Signify at the High Tech Campus Eindhoven. The participants got additional information related to light and human vision and experienced a broad variety of lighting applications ranging from office lighting to shop lighting. After the visit to the LAC, we went back to the university for the second part of the teacher training. All participant joint a guest lecture on circular lighting design given by Petra Hulst. This lecture was part of the master course Capita Selecta Lighting Technology (responsible teacher: Juliƫtte van Duijnhoven).
On the third day the teacher training continued through a Dialux Evo workshop provided by Matej Kobav. This workshop focused on energy efficient and smart lighting designs and simulations. The three-day event concluded with a Q&A session for the teachers of the four Vietnamese universities within this project. All remaining questions related to the teaching material (lectures and exercises) were answered.
It's wonderful to see that all new and adjusted lighting courses are running at the four partner universities in Vietnam and that through this project the European Union can contribute to educating the next generation lighting experts!
